Modest Mondays: Mid-Week Lunch Date (Sister and Kid Edition)

Are you guys chomping at the bit to wear fall clothes as much as I am?? Boots, scarves, tights and cute hats? Yes, please. However, in my neck of the woods we are feeling lucky if we get below 90 right now so we are still very much in summer clothes. You can be assured, however, that the minute the temperature drops below 70,we will overzealously pull out all things fall and layer it on, despite the fact that it we will be too hot after a few minutes in the Texas sun.

When my sister Claire was here this past summer, we all went downtown one afternoon to meet our brother for lunch. As a photographer, this alley was just calling my name to snap a few photos before we went to attack our chips and salsa.

Thus, the mid-week-lunch-date-sister-and-kid-edition was born. Our outfits are actually perfect colors for transitioning into fall while still staying cool, haha. :)

2 sisters laughing together in an alley is perfectly normal, right?!

July 4th Outfit Inspiration

Ok, I realize I should have posted this much earlier, but I just got dressed for our little 4th get together so I figured I would post this really quick! It's totally bugging me that I didn't straighten out my shirt a little better (or possibly even iron it, the horror), but I was rushed so I'm hoping you all will overlook it! :)
A little secret... I love red on other people but not really me. So, when Patriotic holidays roll around-- and Christmas, for that matter, I don't have anything to wear. Thankfully, my sister was selling this adorable peplum top on our Instagram shop, so I bought it from her. Yes, we do buy from each other sometimes--or trade clothes. ;) Anyway, I really need to start buying more red for when the occasion arises!

Outfit Details:
Necklace: WalMart (they have so many cute ones for $5!)
Skirt: Also purchased on an Instagram shop. The pictures don't show, but it's lace and has a stretchy waist--so comfy!
Shoes: Target Clearance ($5!)

PS-Had to turn around and give the handsome (hardworking, lawn mowing, dirty) guy taking the pictures the strawberry water when he was done! Thanks babe!

Modest Mondays: Summery Sundays

My sister has been here for about a week now, and we were able to sneak away for a few days for a girls weekend with our best friend and two of her friends (who quickly became great friends to us, as well). We had theee best time ever. My amazing husband watched ALL SIX of our kids without one hiccup... seriously, he's incredible.
Needless to say, we did a lot of shopping and were able to pick up a few staple items for super cheap, and combined with pieces I already had it made a really nice Sunday outfit! I love layering in the summer when I can. I love how blazers dress up outfits, but it's really hot here, so finding this short sleeved one in my favorite colors was definitely a win ;).
This is my first time wearing a peplum style top, and I really liked it. I love how feminine the combination of cream and lace is!

I wear the shoes I mentioned here all.the.time... best purchase ever.

Outfit Details:
Blazer: Thrifted
Pink Statement Necklace: Local Boutique ($4!)
Cream Peplum Top: Platos Closet (highly, highly recommend this store!)
Skirt: Ross
Shoes: Ross (Clarks)

Modest Mondays: Easy like {Saturday} Morning

My mom loves white tops and owns several. For some reason I shy away from them--I always want colored everything. But there are just some times when white looks so classy and perfect (kind of like my Mom!). Instead of trying to find something to match the pretty but hard-to-match tone of my skirt, I threw on this easy white top, skipped doing anything to my hair (which happens often) and added a hat with a little pop of color. Such a fun, easy like Saturday morning outfit.

(Because if you get 4 kids dressed up and out the door every Sunday morning at 8:30am, there is nothing easy about Sunday morning). ;)
Needless to say, I will be on the lookout for more cute white tops for this summer!

The wedges were a recent purchase from Ross. Higher than what I normally wear, but they are Clarks and honestly thee most comfortable shoes I've ever worn which is why I bought them in the first place. Maxi skirts/dresses are always dragging, so a good comfy pair of wedges is perfect to raise me up a bit. ;) I've literally worn them almost every day since I bought them a few weeks ago, because the comfort, plus they go with everything!

Outfit Details:
Fedora Hat: Target
Necklace: Local boutique ($4)
White Top: Target (I also have light green and black because I love the style)
Skirt: JCPenny, free with coupon ;)
Shoes: Ross (Clarks)

We are in the last  half week of school and could not be happier. Bring on Summer!

Modest Mondays: Stripes and Brights

(Tuesday is the new Monday!)

Actually, in my defense, Nathan spilled water on my computer and I had to power it down and leave it off for close to a week before attempting to start it back up again. Thankfully, all seems to be fine--thank you Jesus! So now I'm behind in editing and blogging, which is why this post is brought to you on this fine Tuesday.
I haven't done one of these in way too long, and now that spring is in full swing (even if it is still snowing in your neck of the woods), I have some super fun outfit ideas coming up! For now, I'm so thankful that my sister filled in for me today. :)

Claire is here again with an outfit that I absolutely love. She says:
Bright colors pair amazingly with black and white stripes. Having a variety of solid skirts in your wardrobe is a huge plus in creating stylish outfits. Find a statement necklace that matches your skirt color, or for an braver more exciting approach, try something that contrasts!

Outfit Details:
Skirt: Goodwill
Blazer: Goodwill
Necklace: WalMart
Flats: Thrifted

This outfit is motivating me to get out thrifting more--practically this entire darling combo was thrifted, and you would never know!

Hope you all are having a great week!

Modest Mondays: Happy Spring!

We're officially on spring break over here, so I won't be online much so I can enjoy every second of it with Nate and the kids! We don't have anything big planned, just fun things each day that the kids will enjoy. The weather is supposed to be ahhhmazing (70's and 80's!) so we will be outside as much as possible.

I wore this outfit a few weeks back when I was going to a casual dinner with the pregnancy center I volunteer at. It was rainy and cold, so I added tights and boots, but this would be super cute with wedges or flats for warmer weather!

Tucking in a shirt is WAY out of my comfort zone, but the skirt style kind of calls for it, so I did. Thankfully the fuller waist helped hide my post-baby (7 months later, blah) so I felt comfortable in it. The shirt has little polka dots, so there is definitely some mild pattern mixing going on here. ;)

Outfit Details
Blouse: Target (clearance!)

Necklace: Teething necklace that I love and wear all the time. When I'm holding Nicolas he grabs it and chews it and it keeps him occupied while I'm chatting with friends at church. :)

Skirt: Klassy Girl Boutique (gorgeous modest clothing!)

Tights: Gift

Boots: Goodwill

Have a wonderful week, everyone! Off to enjoy the sunshine with my kiddos.

Modest Mondays: Layering

I am pretty sure that the entire country is sick of winter at this point. Wether your lows are in the 30's like us, or below zero like where I grew up, I think everyone is just ready to be done with layering, tights and boots. However, just hang in there-- I have a few cute ideas for you today to wrap up the winter season. I'm sharing 2 because I'm ready to start sharing spring outfits after this week... maybe it will prompt winter to go away. ;)

Both of these outfits are layered, which is great as the season slowwwllllyyy changes.

The first outfit I'm sharing today is from my friend Susanna. I like to think of her as family because we share nieces and nephews! ;)
I love the nautical top Susanna is wearing. Normally I would think of anything nautical as a warm weather piece, but she paired it with a leather jacket and boots and it looks prefect for winter! And of course, we all know that long jean skirts and winter staples-so classic and can be worn with anything.

Outfit Details:
Leather Jacket: Wilson's Leather Outlet
Graphic Metallic Anchor Tee: Ross
Dark Denim Skirt: Cato
Boots: Shoe Dept.

Another layering idea is vests! These work really well for the warmer climate that I live in, or in the coming weeks when it's too warm for a jacket but you want something thicker than a cardigan. Add a scarf ( I love infinity scarves!) and a hat and you're all set.

Outfit Details:
Hat: Thrifted (is that gross? Ha)
Scarf: Gift (Target)
Vest: JCPenny (old!)
Top: Gift
Skirt: Cato
Boots: Ross

If you noticed, Susie and I both purchased our skirts at Cato--it's a really great place for Denim skirts. I just checked and they have several options right now, so check it out if you're in the market for a new one. Very reasonably priced, too!

Hope the time change isn't messing up your sleep schedule as much as it's messing up ours... ;) Happy Monday everyone!

Modest Mondays: Long and Flowy

I'm so excited that my "little" sister Mary is here today to share this beautiful outfit with you! I hope that by having different girls help me out you will get to see a variety of style ideas and body types.

This outfit is super basic, but by tucking it in and adding a chunky necklace she was able to dress it up and make it even prettier! Tucking in tops to fuller skirts can get rid of the extra bulk of the skirt and accent your waist nicely without being too form fitting! I'll be honest, I haven't tucked in a shirt in years, but this has given me courage to maybe try it once again. ;)

Outfit Details:
Top: Bealls Outlet
Necklace: Wet Seal
Skirt: Gift (Ross)
Boots: Payless

Modest Mondays: Knit Blazer

Is its just me, or are knit Blazers pretty much the best invention ever? Looking classy while feeling like you just threw on your comfiest sweatshirt? Win-win in my book! They are perfect for the dressy/casual outfit. Think a nice night out to eat, a bridal shower, Wednesday night church, girls night; pretty much anytime you want to look a little nicer but feel comfortable at the same time.

I loved this outfit because it converted easily for me from day to night. Thin, long sleeved shirts are a must in the warmer climate I live for when it does get cooler (high of 35 today!), and I easily turned it into a nice outfit for church by adding the blazer and a chunky statement necklace.
Of course, I live in maxi skirts and I love how comfortable they are too. I won't even tell you how many I have in my closet.... Ha. But it's a lot. Target just came out with some new ones and I've already been eyeing them!

The kelly green top is from ThredUp and it's pretty much the best site ever. It's used clothes in excellent condition, like a giant thrift store that you can shop from the comfort of your own home! If you click from my links, you'll get $10 off your first order and I'll get credit too! I've purchased from there 2 times already and gotten several things that I've been very pleased with! It can be a little overwhelming because there are thousands of items, but I find that narrowing it down to size, style, price and color helps immensely in being able to scroll through quickly. They have kids clothes as well!  Go check it out!

Outfit Details:
Blazer: Thrift Store (Merona brand from Target)
Green Top: ThredUp
Skirt: Gift (Cato)
Shoes: Gift (Target)
Necklace and Earrings: Gift

Modest Mondays (AKA What I Wore Wednesdays)

See how I did that...

...made up for my slacking in not posting Monday by renaming this series for my own convenience?

Anyway! This week's outfit is casual and not hard to piece together depending on what color skirts you have. I have looked everywhere for other skirts like this. It's like a denim, but so fun because it's a bright color! I would love several other colors, but I haven't ben successful yet.
I love all of the tribal prints that are in right now, plus the patterns help hide post-baby belly. ;) I got some Christmas money and purchased a few of these shirts that are perfect for this climate because they are nice and thin, but still great for the cooler days because they are long sleeved.

Outfit Details:
Jean Jacket: Thrifted (Christopher and Banks brand)
Shirt: Kohls
Skirt: Sears
Tights: Old Navy clearance
Boots: Ross

I would love to know if anyone has found more skirts like this!

Modest Mondays: Pattern Mixing

This week's post is brought to you by my sister Claire, who loves modest fashion! You will be seeing a lot more of her in coming months. She's the one I text when I'm not sure about colors and prints to mix and she always has great ideas!

Some tips from Claire:

Pattern mixing is in! Don't be afraid to mix a little and start with something simple like this, stripes with a floral scarf. The scarf can tie in the different solid colors in your outfit to complete it without being too match-matchy. Striped skirts are a perfect staple to have in your closet because they can be dressed up or down and worn in any season. Add boots and a cardigan for Fall, or just a simple t shirt and sandals for Summer.

Outfit Details:
Cardigan: Old Navy Clearance
Skirt: Loft Brand (from consignment shop "Clothes Mentor")
Boots: Old Navy

If you enjoyed this, please let Claire know in the comments below!

 Happy Monday!

Modest Mondays: Dressing up the Basics

I'm going to start a series called "modest Mondays" in which I may or may not faithfully post modest outfit ideas each week. This is totally out of my comfort zone, but modesty is something that is very important to me, and looking cute and feminine at the same time is so fun!
I will include some special guests from time to time (aka my beautiful sisters) as well. We would love to show that being modest doesn't have to be frumpy--you can look stylish, while pleasing God at the same time!

You will see a lot of Thrifted clothes--dressings cute does not have to be expensive! If it's not thrifted, we get a lot of our clothes used off Instagram shops (and have our own shop as well; check it out here!), or clearance racks.

Disclaimer:
Ok--I felt totally weird trying to pose for these pictures. I will spare you the "outtakes".  ;)Let's just say Nate and I were laughing pretty hard at the end! I'm not a fashion model by any means. Ha.

Another disclaimer (are you asleep yet?): I am trying to be more accepting of my post baby body. Even though I'm not where I want to be yet, I'm doing the best that I can and am SO privileged and blessed to be able to carry and mother children. I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and part of learning to be more accepting of the way God made me is posting pictures like this. Thanks for helping me along in the journey in learning to be content with the temple God gave me, while working to get to where I would like to be. I hope that makes sense!

So without further ado... my first Modest Monday Post!

This week is a pretty basic outfit. Black and white isn't really a favorite of mine, but I loved it with some colored tights and a scarf for a pop of color!

My MIL knows my style well--the scarf was one of my Christmas presents from her. Isn't it adorable?!

Love these basic flats with a little sparkle

Details:
Cardigan: Old Navy
Cream top: Target
Scarf: Gift
Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Gift
Shoes: Ross

Please let me know if you enjoy this sort of thing so I know if I should continue or not! I enjoy seeing outfit posts so I thought maybe you would too. ;)
